Sample of the week

Sample of the week is Varafoam.

Varafoam is a natural cotton mesh impregnated with a thermoplastic resin. When heated with hot water or hot air it quickly softens so that it can be worked into any shape. It sets on cooling to form a rigid lightweight armature.

Varafoam will stick to itself in its warm state and it can be re-heated and re-moulded as many times as required. It is non-toxic and has indefinite shelf life. Varafoam is biodegradable, water resistant and is 50% lighter than Plaster of Paris making it ideal for use as elaborate masks.

Find this and other materials in our Samples Library located in the Materials Room (Library Basement) open 11-4 Mon-Fri.
